ASG says z/XDC has saved “thousands of development and support hours”, and made code review “faster, more insightful and a greater learning experience”:

I started using z/XDC in the early 1990s. I have been a great fan of the product, having saved literally thousands of development and support hours with z/XDC. I’d like to share a few examples:

“z/XDC allowed me to quickly diagnose and propose a problem fix”

ASG Technologies

When I came to ASG as a TMON for DB2TM developer, I was happy to discover that z/XDC was in our shop. I immediately started using z/XDC to learn the internals of the TMON software. When I was given my first real problem, I was ready. z/XDC allowed me to quickly diagnose and propose a problem fix. Without z/XDC, the project would have taken much more time and required a lot of help from other members of the TMON for DB2 team.

A while ago, a critical customer problem came up which required us to debug a program running under an SRB. With a bit of ‘lobbying’ on my part, the team opted for the z/XDC route, and quickly got the customer back on track. Our TMON team often reviews code written by other developers for correctness, efficiency and adherence to our coding standards.

“I hope that z/XDC becomes the de facto debugging tool for the ASG-TMON for DB2 team.”

Recently, rather than manually checking the reviewed code, I ran it under z/XDC. My review was faster, more insightful and a great learning experience, in that I was not familiar with the code.

Having completed a series of z/XDC mentoring sessions for our team, everybody is up to speed and can start using z/XDC full time. I hope that z/XDC becomes the de facto debugging tool for the ASG-TMON for DB2 team.
